Abdominal Ultrasound

Evaluates the liver, gallbladder, spleen, kidneys, pancreas, and aorta. Used to detect cysts, gallstones, organ abnormalities, and undiagnosed masses.

Pelvic Ultrasound

Assess the uterus, ovaries, and bladder in women, and the prostate and bladder in men. Essential for diagnosing fibroids, cysts, endometriosis, and urinary issues.

Thyroid & Neck

Detailed imaging of the thyroid gland, surrounding lymph nodes, and soft tissue masses to help diagnose nodules or swelling.

Breast Ultrasound

An essential complementary scan to mammography for accurately characterising breast lumps, fluid-filled cysts, and solid masses in a safe, radiation-free format.

Musculoskeletal

Real-time evaluation of tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints to assess sports injuries, joint pain, and inflammatory conditions without wait times.

Vascular / Doppler

SCAN REQUIREMENTS

Simple Patient Preparation

Full Bladder Required

Pelvic ultrasound (transabdominal)
Drink 1 litre of water 1 hour before and do not urinate. A full bladder creates an acoustic window to visualise the uterus and ovaries clearly.

First trimester obstetric ultrasound
For scans before 12 weeks, a full bladder is required for the same reason to provide optimal fetal imaging.

Renal and bladder ultrasound
A partially full bladder is needed to adequately assess the bladder wall and fluid capacity.

Empty Bladder / No Prep

Abdominal ultrasound
Fasting for 4–6 hours is required (no food or drink except water) to reduce bowel gas and ensure a clear view of the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas.

Second and third trimester obstetric scans
No bladder preparation is needed, as the uterus is large enough to be visualised without it.

Other specific scans
Thyroid, breast, musculoskeletal, vascular, and scrotal ultrasounds require no special preparation.

General Preparation Tips

  • Wear comfortable, loose clothing for easy access to the scan area.
  • Avoid carbonated drinks and heavy meals before abdominal scans.
  • Bring your referral letter and any previous scan results if available.
  • Arrive 10–15 minutes early to complete registration.
